The 8th round was celebrated by another win of the leader of the tournament “Ural” from Ekaterinburg over “Southern Ural” from Chelyabinsk. In the most “entertaining” match of the round 4 games were ended in victories. Gata Kamsky (“Ural” – USA, 2726) has scored a victory over never-fading Viktor Korchnoi (“Southern Ural” – Switzerland, 2598). Vladimir Akopian (“Ural” – Armenia, 2693) has won over Evgeny Romanov (“Southern Ural” — Russia, 2547). Alexey Dreev (“Ural” — Russia, 2657) with black has beaten the international master Pavel Ponkratov ("Southern Ural” – Russia, 2499). Igor Kurnosov (“Southern Ural” — Russia, 2593) has conquered Vladimir Malakhov (“Ural” — Russia, 2689) thus somehow softening the injurious defeat of his team in Ural “Derby”.

The losses of the nearest pursuers of “Ural” team in the standings – “FINEK-GazPromBank” from St. Petersburg and “TPS-Saransk” from Saransk were quite a surprise. They lost their games to “Tomsk-400” from Tomsk and “Polytechnik” from Nizhny Tagil.

In the match between “FINEK-GazPromBank” – “Tomsk-400” the victory was celebrated by young grandmasters Sergey Karjakin (”Tomsk-400” — Ukraine, 2732) and Artyom Timofeev (“Tomsk-400” – Russia, 2664). Vadim Zvjaginsev (“FINEK-GazPromBank” – Russia, 2674) and Nikita Vitiugov (“FINEK-GazPromBank” — Russia, 2617) were conquered by them.

In the match between “TPS-Saransk” – “Polytechnik” three games ended up resultatively. On the 1st board Vassily Ivanchuk (“TPS-Saransk” – Ukraine, 2740) has won over Zahar Efimenko (“Polytechnik” – Ukraine, 2660). This victory was the only one for Saranks team in this match. On the 4th and 5th boards respectively Igor Lysyj (“Polytechnik” – Russia, 2595) has beaten Emil Sutovsky (“TPS-Saransk” – Israel, 2630), Dmitry Bocharov (“Polytechnik” — Russia, 2569) has scored a victory over Sergey Volkov (“TPS-Saransk” – Russia, 2633).

“Economist-SGSEU-1” from Saratov, which is the pursuer of the leader as well, maintained the pressure in the upper part of the standings for the concluding rounds, thus beating “ShSM” from Moscow. Pavel Eljanov (“Economist-SGSEU-1” – Ukraine, 2692) on the 2nd board has beaten Karen Asrian (”ShSM” — Armenia, 2630), Ildar Khairullin (“Economist-SGSEU-1” – Ukraine, 2554) on the 6th board) has scored a victory over Boris Savchenko (”ShSM” — Russia, 2569). Mikhail Krasenkow (“ShSM” – Poland, 2624) on the 5th board has won over Alexander Galkin (“Economist-SGSEU-1” — Russia, 2606).

“Economist-SGSEU-2” from Saratov has suffered another defeat, this time by “Spasio Swiss” team from Moscow. Vladislav Tkachiev (“Spasio Swiss” – France, 2657) and Denis Khismatullin (”Spasio-Swiss” — Russia, 2584) scored their victories over Alexei Iljushin (“Economist-SGSEU-2” — Russia, 2552) and Alexei Kornev (“Economist-SGSEU-2” — Russia, 2540) respectively.

The one and only match which has ended in a draw had been played between “64” (Moscow) and “Shatar-Metropol” (Ulan-Ude). Two games in this match were ended resultatively: Pental Harikrishna (“64” – India, 2679) — Anton Shomoev (“Shatar-Metropol” — Russia, 2559) and Farrukh Amonatov (“Shatar-Metropol” — Tajikistan, 2649)  — Evgeny Bareev (“64” — Russia, 2677), white won in both games.
